Professor Barbara Simpson and PhD student Bryam Astudillo attended the NHERI-NIED/E-Defense Research Collaboration Meeting, held on January 29–30, 2025, in Miki City, Japan. This meeting marked a renewed phase of U.S.–Japan collaboration in earthquake engineering research, bringing together leading researchers and agency representatives from both countries.
Bryam was awarded a travel grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) through the NHERI Network Coordination Office (NCO) to support his participation. The event featured plenary and breakout sessions on experimental testing at E-Defense and NHERI facilities, computational modeling and data sharing, and multi-hazard resilience planning.
On Jan 29 and 30, the #NHERI/E-Defense Planning MTG was held at E-Defense, and members of #NIED’s Hyogo Earthquake Engineering Research Center and @NSF-funded @NHERIDesignSafe (Natural Hazards Engineering Research Infrastructure) discussed future collaboration on #DRR. #EDefense pic.twitter.com/M57qLlXS9M
